In this tutorial, I am going to complete my friend Cherie’s transition from relaxed to natural hair and review some products from Dark and Lovely’s Au Naturale Anti-Shrinkage line!
For more transitioning information and tips, view these posts and tutorials

Featured products:
All of the products in the Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Anti-Shrinkage line have mango seed oil, which is packed with Vitamin A, a vitamin that helps prevent hair loss and helps your scalp produce natural oils to prevent dryness and dandruff. They also contain bambusa vulgaris extract, or bamboo extract, which is a source of natural silica that will strengthen hair and also help prevent hair loss. There are also several variations of organic coconut that will help with moisture penetration. What I love about this line is that all of the products apply easily to the hair, they have a light, tropical floral smell and none of the products are sticky, and you can feel the moisture in each one.
- Hydrating Soak Shampoo
- Knot Out Conditioner
- Coil Moisturizing Soufflé
- 10-n-1 Styles Gelée
- Sheen Sealing Nectar
Other products and tools:
- ApHogee Curlific Texture Treatment
- Denman 9-Row Brush
- Design Essentials Honey Shea Edge Tamer
Total time:
Total time for the style, omitting the cutting and overnight dry time was about 90 minutes.
Keep and care:
To preserve this style you can re-twist your perimeter hair and tie a silk scarf around it. You can also co-wash with a hydrating conditioner or product specifically formulated for co-washing and reset your hair mid-week if necessary.
