The Halo Braid

Every queen needs a crown, and there’s nothing like creating your own! I am going to show you how to achieve the very trendy, super cute, halo braid using products and tools from Sally Beauty!

Prep: I am starting with freshly cleansed and conditioned hair that has air dried to about 90% dry.

Section: Divide hair into four sections, then clip away with Salon Care Extra Large Super Croco Clips to prepare for blow-drying. Sectioning makes the task much easier and faster, and these clips hold lots of hair securely!

Blow-dry: Using the Ion Conditioning Ionic-Ceramic Tourmaline Dryer with concentrator nozzle and a Denman Large Paddle Brush, dry and stretch the hair. The ionic generator in this dryer helps hair dry faster leaving hair less frizzy and shinier. The Denman brush has smooth ball-ended pins to prevent snagging and an easy to hold ergonomic handle. I am using this paddle brush because I don’t want my hair to get too straight; this will help increase the volume and weight of the halo braid.

Part/section hair: Using the Argan Heat Professional Argan Ceramic Rattail Comb to part hair ear-to-ear, across the crown. This comb is infused with argan oil for shine and it is designed to be snag-free with ultra-smooth glide, which makes this task a breeze!

Add product: Apply the Hair Chemist Coconut Oil Hair Serum to smooth hair before braiding. This serum has a blend of coconut, jojoba, argan, olive and sweet almond oils. I like this serum because it’s lightweight and doesn’t revert the hair.

Braid: Starting on the right side, take a diagonal section of hair and divide it into three pieces. The piece on the top is going to go to the bottom and the piece on the bottom becomes the middle. The middle is left out and will become the top. Basically, this is a traditional plait except you are picking up hair along the way.

Pin hair: Secure the hair feeding the braid with Metagrip Premium Bob Pins. These pins have spring firm secure grip that’s rust resistant with durable tips. (TIP – The short side of the pin with the waves goes on the scalp side. This helps the hair grip more securely, so you can use less pins. And it keeps them from sliding around during the day.)

Make ponytail: Create a ponytail with two DCNL No Crimper Thick Elastics and a Denman Large Grooming Brush. These elastics hold hair securely without snagging. I use two because my hair likes to break elastics of any kind, and I don’t have to wrap it as many times when I double up. The Denman Grooming Brush has natural boar bristles that add shine and condition hair. It also has a air cushioned rubber pad for control and ergonomic handle for comfy grip. I love this brush!

Shape bun: Make a bun by smoothing, rolling, tucking, and then pinning hair into place. You can place the bun in the back, braid the ponytail hair and pin it around into a bun, or continue the halo braid around the whole head. That’s the beauty of styles like this, they can be easily modified!

Edge gel: Using Design Essentials Honey & Shea Edge Tamer for finishing touch. I love how this one holds and doesn’t get sticky or flaky. It has hydrogenated castor oil, honey and shea butter for conditioning all with a firm hold.

Shine mist: Use the Hair Chemist Coconut Oil Moisturizing Hair Mist to add a bit more shine. This penetrating hair mist coconut, argan and olive oils along with sunflower oil for a bit of sun protection. I love that it’s super lightweight and smells great!
