In this tutorial, I am going to show you a couple of fall trends for hair and nails using products and tools available at Sally Beauty!
HAIR TREND – The Half Bun
SECTION: I am going to section my hair with my Ceramic Rattail Comb from ear to ear, across the crown and use my DCNL Scrunchi to hold the back hair. These tools definitely help me organize my sectioning. When you have a lot of hair, good tools to keep it organized makes the process much easier and faster.
APPLY MOISTURIZER: I am going to apply Made Beautiful True Styling Crème to help moisturize and smooth my curls. This sulfate and paraben free crème is very lightweight and has coconut oil, shea and mango butters and one of my fav ingredients, aloe vera juice, all combined in a very clean, citrus scent. This crème feels amazing!
SMOOTH EDGES: Next, I am going to apply Mielle Organics Honey & Ginger Edge Gel to smooth my edges. It’s unlike any other edge gel I have tried in that it functions like a gel, with smooth hold, but like a paste with a fast dry. It has honey, lavender, castor oil, ginger oil, and my fav, aloe juice combined for lasting hold that is able to be re-wet and set in the days after. I really like this gel!
PONYTAIL: It’s time to smooth it all together with my Denman Natural Boar Bristle Grooming Brush and pony it up with a scrunchi. This is the small, super cute version of the grooming brush is great when there is less surface area to cover. This brush has a comfy, ergonomic grip, flexible pad and quality bristles. I have lots of Denman tools and they are all amazing!
CREATE BUN: I am going to make my bun by wrapping, tucking and pining around my scrunchi with Metagrip Premium Bob Pins. It is important to have a very light touch, gentle hand on this so the hair is smooth and you don’t disturb the base of the style. It also helps to allow your natural curls to create the bulk in the bun so it sits high and even. These pins are awesome because they are rust-resistant coating, so they stand up to all the oily products we like to use for styling!
FLUFF & FINISH: Now I am going to use Antonio’s Styling Fan Fist Pik to fluff the hair in the back Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Hair Sheen for finishing touch. It has sweet almond oil, shea butter, wheat germ and jojoba oil to condition and add lasting shine, not to mention amazing fragrance, to any style!
NAIL TREND – OPI Washington DC Collection
When it comes to polish formula plus shape of brush, OPI is top-notch, and I am going to show you a cute nail design using three colors from the new OPI Washington DC Collection – Shh…It’s Top Secret, Squeaker of the House, and Suzi- The First Lady of Nails.
FIRST LAYER: Starting on freshly manicured nails, with base coat applied, I am going to start with Squeaker of the House and paint a little more than half way down my pinky. I will do the same with the other two colors, alternating across my fingers.
SECOND LAYER: I am going to take Suzi – The First Lady of Nails and paint a diagonal line across my pinky, covering a bit of the first layer, leaving the very tip uncovered. I will follow the same diagonal pattern on the remaining four nails. The trick to painting without stencils and tape, is to use quality polish with a strong brush, which is why I love OPI!
THIRD LAYER: For the third layer, I will take a diagonal line the opposite direction to cover the tip on my pinky with Shh…It’s Top Secret, and complete the other four nails with their remaining color. Make sure you coat the very outer tip of the nail to seal it all together and apply a second, light coat of color if needed.
TOP COAT: To finish, I will apply OPI Matte Top Coat. This topcoat has a smooth velvety finish and dries quickly making a very rich, smooth surface. Make sure you have let your nails dry a bit before applying to prevent streaking. I let mine set for about 10 minutes.
