My friend, Alisha, has color-treated, natural hair that has been through three different color changes in the last year and a half. Her hair is very dense and strong, but she still needs to be mindful of how she cares for her hair. The Carol’s Daughter Tui Color Care Collection is going to ensure her hair is moisturized and her color is protected and vibrant.
Featured products (UPDATE: The Tui Collection is discontinued), find other Carol’s Daughter products here):
The Tui Moisturizing Hair Oil has calendula and chamomile extracts with safflower oil to make hair softer, and corn oil to keep your color shinier and make it appear brighter. The packaging is designed to submerged in water, which makes it super easy to heat up without making a mess. The oil is great as a pre-poo treatment, deep conditioning oil or as a finishing, styling oil.
The Tui Hydrating Sulfate-Free Shampoo has blends of color-safe, moisturizing ingredients, like soy, aloe leaf, rosemary, and nettle that work to balance the hair while restoring shine and manageability, and protecting your hair color. The formula has a plush, moisturizing lather that helps make hair more flexible and easy to detangle, and like the rest of the collection, it has an amazing, brisk smell blended with sweet floral for a nice, soothing fragrance experience.
The Tui Hydrating Hair Mask is packed with penetrating and protecting oils and extracts like olive oil, shea butter and sweet almond oil that help hydrate the hair and restore lost moisture. When hair is lifted several levels, it can be prone to dryness and breakage because the ammonia in permanent dyes can affect how your cuticle opens and closes around the hair shaft, leaving hair more susceptible to moisture loss. This mask is going to install moisture in the hair shaft and seal it in. It also has vitamin B5 and E for healthy growth and buriti oil, which is an excellent frizz reducing, hydrating oil.
The Tui Hydrating Leave-In Conditioner is a lightweight, hydrating formula that contains aloe leaf juice, calendula and pro-vitamin B5 to strengthen and protect the hair in the days after styling. It is also silicone free and uses natural oils and extracts that protect from UV ray damage and moisture loss.

Total time:
Total style time was about two hours.
Keep and care:
To preserve the curls overnight, you can simply gather all the hair to the crown and secure it in the pineapple with a satin or silk scarf, or sleep on a satin pillow case.
Alisha’s color mix:
Alisha’s current color mix is a result of a series of dye applications over the last year and a half. First, her hair was lifted three/four levels with a permanent dye from the Ion Color Brilliance system, then Adore’s Crimson semi-permanent rinse was applied a few months later, and most recently, her crown was toned with a blonde and sides and back hair with a dark brown, both from Ion Color Brilliance.
It is my recommendation that you see a stylist for color consultation and never guess! Before you head to the beauty supply and start selecting colors, see more on what factors affect how dye processes and a list of questions to take to a consultation.
